"I have been associated with Ben TeKamp since the mid-1980s when I was Commanding Officer of the Brockville Rifles. In later years I was the Honorary Colonel of the Regiment and he was the Mayor of Brockville. During those years the survival of the Regiment was a very serious concern. Community support was a large factor in decisions by Defence Planners to retain the Regiment and Mayor TeKamp's leadership and unflagging efforts on our behalf played a major role in focusing that support.
I have seen that he is respected by leaders of local governments within Leeds-Grenville and that he knows and is respected by the leaders of other Ontario municipalities, all of whom he lobbied on our behalf. He has been on excellent terms with Provincial and Federal parliamentarians from all political parties and used these connections to our benefit. In summary, he played a leading role in the successful campaign to keep the Regiment in Brockville.
Given my firsthand experience, I believe Ben's leadership skills, connections and will to maintain a valuable Brockville institution, make him the proven choice for Mayor. "
